Ever changed a password across devices and forgotten what the old one was? With macOS Tahoe, Appleâs Passwords app now includes version historyâso you can see prior passwords youâve used for an account and when you changed them. AppleInsider
đĄ What Exactly Happened?
Previously, if you reset a password from one device (or via âForgot Passwordâ), that change might overwrite your record everywhereâand you'd lose track of what used to work. Tahoe fixes that by:
Adding a âView Historyâ button (only when changes were made) inside a login entry. AppleInsider
Displaying a list of all saved or changed passwords over timeâcomplete with timestamps. AppleInsider
Letting you tap on any past version to view it (if itâs safe to do so) to recover a password you forgot. AppleInsider
Allowing you to clear this history if you want to maintain tighter security. AppleInsider
đ Why It Matters
It gives you a safety net when you forget a new password after switching devices.
It helps you trace when credentials changedâuseful for security audits or troubleshooting.
Itâs protected and encrypted like your current passwords, so older versions arenât less secure. AppleInsider
